The current study evaluated the diagnosis and management of acute pharyngitis in the United States from 2011 through 2015 using a database of private and public health insurance claims. With over 11 million adult and pediatric patients with pharyngitis evaluated over the previous 5 years, these data represent one of the largest evaluations of GAS pharyngitis incidence, diagnosis, and antibiotic use to date and offer insights into real-world treatment practices among different types of providers across the United States.
